Polish authorities arrested four Turkish nationals in downtown Warsaw on Wednesday, including a 23-year-old suspect accused of stabbing a man along Jana Pawła II Avenue.

The prime suspect in the knife attack faces charges of attempted grievous bodily harm, drug possession, and driving under the influence of drugs. One of the detained individuals was also found to be residing in Poland illegally.

The incident took place in the Śródmieście district of the Polish capital, where officers from the downtown Intelligence and Patrol Department responded to reports of a stabbing. On arrival, they found a 35-year-old Turkish citizen who had been seriously wounded in the chest, according to the official police statement.

Police officers provided initial assistance while emergency responders transported the injured man to the hospital. One suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities quickly mobilized to locate additional individuals connected to the incident, swiftly stopping a Toyota on Nowolipie Street where they seized a bloody knife and multiple portions of mephedrone. The three men of Turkish nationality in the vehicle were detained.

An initial investigation showed the attack began with a verbal argument, prompting the suspect to stab the 35-year-old victim in the chest near a row of restaurants on Jana Pawła II Avenue. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over apartment rental payments. Following the attack, the suspect and his associates left the scene.

A background check revealed that one of the detainees was in Poland unlawfully. The 24-year-old individual was subsequently transferred to immigration authorities after processing at the police station.

The Warsaw Śródmieście-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office has requested a three-month pre-trial detention; the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
